- Section 3.1 -- 9, 10.
due: at the start of class on Friday, October 4.
- Individual Problem Set 5: (Note: the strange order here is suggested to reflect the
way we will introduce the concepts involved in class)
- Section 3.2 -- 10, 12, 15, 16, 5, 6ac, 8a
- Section 3.4 -- 5bd
- Section 3.5 -- 1a (compute the derivative two ways: first substitute from the curve and
differentiate directly with respect to t, second use the Chain Rule. Verify that
the results are the same.)
due: at the start of class on Friday, October 11.
- Lab Day 3 worksheet (October 23). Writeups (via email) due
at 5:00pm on October 28.
- Individual Problem Set 6:
- Section 3.5 -- 3a, 4a
- Section 4.1 -- 1ab, 2d, 3, 4
due: at the start of class on Friday, October 25.
- Lab Day 3 worksheet (October 25). Writeups (via email) due

- Individual Problem Set 7:
- Section 4.2 -- 3b, 4c, 9
- Section 4.3 -- 2cd, 3c
- Maple Section: worksheet file. Do these problems and submit
to jlittle@holycross.edu as for one of the lab assignments.
- (Extra Credit) Section 4.4 -- 4a (solve two ways -- first by parametrizing the constraint
curve and considering f restricted to the curve as a function of the parameter, then by
using the two-multiplier Lagrange equations as developed in that section)
due: Both the book problems and the Maple section are due at the start of class on
Friday, November 8.
- Individual Problem Set 8:
- Section 5.1/12
- Section 5.2/1a, 2b, 3cd, 4a, 7, 8a, 9a, 11ab.
