Introduction

In this discussion we will begin to develop a sufficient level of rigor so that we can be confident that we know what is going on in our discussion of measure. Here we will focus on the background material from analysis. You should read this discussion sheet carefully before the next class, it contains our first careful analytic definitions. You may have seen these before in calculus, but here, unlike in calculus, we are going to pay very careful attention to these definitions. You should meet with you group before the next class to go over the definitions. In class, we will split up into our groups to begin to work through the questions, so the time you spend in preparation will make the classroom discussion more productive for your group.
