New release (v0.8.7rc8)

Sorry for the double release; in addition to the "hanging elaps" bug, I
introduced a null assignment to "fileroot". While fixing these I cleaned
up a few other things (such as making the scripts print error messages on
stderr:)

To summarize: epix and elaps should accept all GNU compiler options (that
is, should pass them to the compiler), and upon error all scripts should
exit cleanly with informative messages.
