The exam will be held on Monday, December 11, from 8:00am to 10:30am, in Swords 321.

Plan to arrive a few minutes early to allow time to distribute the exams.

The exam will be comprehensive and cover material from the following sections in the text:
- 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6
- 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 2.8
- 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, 3.8, 3.9, 3.10
- 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7
The exam will focus primarily on the material from Chapters 2, 3,4 and 4.

Cell-phones should be turned OFF for the duration of the exam.

You may use a non-graphing, scientific calculator during the exam. No other calculator or electronic device may be used during the exam.

This is a closed-book exam. No books or notes may be used during the exam.

You will be expected to show all of your work. A correct answer with insufficient justification
may not receive full credit.
Topics
The final exam will cover all topics that were covered on the midterm exams. See the review pages for those exams for a list of those topics:
In addition to the topics covered on the midterm exam, the final exam will cover the following topics.

Extreme Values. (4.2) Be able to find the absolute maximum and minimum values of a function on a closed interval.

Curve Sketching. (4.2, 4.4, and 4.6) Know what the first and second derivatives tell us about the graph of a function. Be able to use that information together with information about asymptotes to sketch the graph of a function.

L'Hopital's Rule. (4.5) Know how to use L'Hopital's Rule to evaluate limits involving the indeterminate forms 0/0 or infinity/infinity.

Applied Optimization. (4.7) Know how to set up and solve applied optimization problems.
Preparing for the Exam
The exam will consist of questions similar to those assigned on the worksheets, quizzes and WebAssign. Be sure you are familiar with how to solve these types of problems. Here are a some additional problems from the Chapter Review sections to use for practice. Solutions to the odd-numbered exercises are in the back of the text.
