Rosamund, Your essay on the "curious incident" is very perceptive. Your final point that autistic people can be easier for us to understand that we are for them to understand is excellent. But I think it's fair to say that it takes an effort to get into the head of someone whose brain works very differently and get to that level of understanding. I think one reason that was possible in this story is the way that Mark Haddon tells the story through Christopher's narration. We see what Christopher sees and he explains how he thinks about things. So (in a sense, and maybe incompletely) we can get to know something of what it's like to be Christopher.
