Announcement: In order to make sure everyone masters the material from section 8.3, we will spend an extra day on this. This means we will postpone studying section 8.6 until next week, and the problems from section 8.6 on this week's assignment are also postponed.

The sixth regular quiz of the semester will be given during the first 20 minutes of class on Friday, March 15. It will cover the material on using integrals to find the total mass and the location of the center of mass of an object. Section 8.3 only. Calculators and the table of integrals will be allowed on this quiz. You should know:

• How to find an integral formula for the total mass of an object, given the density function. ``Slice'', approximate the mass of the slice, sum, then take the limit as n -> infinity to get a definite integral. The quiz will contain one problem like this.
• How to find the location of the center of mass of an object.
• How to evaluate the definite integral you get, using the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. This may involve any one of the methods we learned in Chapter 7 to find the antiderivative -- a substitution, parts, or the table of integrals.

On the quiz, there will be two problems similar to questions from this week's problem assignment.
