Mathematics 133 -- Intensive Calculus for Science 1
Quiz 7
October 25, 2005
The seventh regular quiz of the semester will be given in class on
Friday, October 27. It will cover the material from sections 3.2,
3.3, and 3.4 from this week's problem set.
Calculators allowed on this quiz. The specific topics
to be covered will be:
- New ``shortcut rules'' for computing derivatives:
- The product rule: d/dx(f(x)g(x)) = f(x)g'(x) + g(x)f'(x)
- The quotient rule:
d/dx(f(x)/g(x)) = (g(x)f'(x) - f(x)g'(x))/(g(x))2
- The chain rule: d/dx(f(g(x)) = f'(g(x)) g'(x)
- You should be able to use these, plus the other shortcut rules
we have learned
- The derivative power rule: d/dx(xn) = n xn-1.
- The derivative sum rule: d/dx(f(x) + g(x)) = f'(x) + g'(x)
- The derivative constant multiple rule: d/dx(cf(x)) = cf'(x)
- The derivative exponential rule: d/dx(ax) = ax ln(a)
singly and in combination.
On the quiz, there will be four or five
questions similar to problems from the assignment.
