Mathematics 134 -- Intensive Calculus 2
Quiz 8 -- Things to Know
April 4, 2001
The eighth quiz of the semester will be given during the
first 20 minutes of class this coming Friday, April 6.
It will be similar in format to the other quizzes and cover
the following material:
Topics to Know
- Taylor series -- know the Taylor series with a = 0
for the standard functions
ex, sin(x), cos(x), 1/(1-x), (1+x)p
(i.e. memorize them -- you should not have to compute the
Taylor series for these functions from the formula, although you
can do that too if you need to, of course!)
and how to use those to produce Taylor series for other functions
by substitution, algebraic operations, differentiation, and integration.
- Differential equations -- know how to determine whether a given
function is a solution of a given differential equation.
Good Review Problems:
- Problems like 9.3/1-12 for computing new Taylor series
from the known ones for ex, sin(x), cos(x), 1/(1-x),
(1+x)p
- Problems like 10.1/3-9 for determining whether given functions
are solutions of differential equations.
