Mathematics 134 -- Intensive Calculus 2
Quiz 4 -- Things to Know
February 21, 2001
The fourth quiz of the semester will be given in class on Friday,
February 23. There will be two improper integrals and one problem
where you will have to compute a volume of a solid by slicing (and
integration). The integrals involved will be "simple" ones that
you can do by basic rules (possibly after a substitution), so I will
not provide a copy of the table of integrals this time.
Topics to Know
- Improper integrals over infinite intervals -- evaluate
the integral over finite intervals and take a limit
- Improper integrals over intervals where the integrand
has an infinite discontinuity (vertical asymptote) -- evaluate
the integral over intervals not containing the asymptote and
take a limit.
- Volumes by slicing -- volume is integral of the cross
section area function.
Good Review Problems:

- Chapter 8, section 1 -- problems like 6-11
