Quiz 3 -- Things to Know

The third quiz of the semester will be given in class on Friday, February 9. There will be four or five integrals similar to the problems on Problem Set 3. One problem may involve using entries from a table of integrals like the one in the back of our textbook. I will provide the table entries you need in that case, but you will need to determine which table entry applies from several possibilities.

Topics to Know

1. Integrals by parts:
   • Be able to determine a reasonable choice of u and dv
   • Apply the integration by parts formula
   • Evaluate the remaining integral (the "v du" integral). This may involve integrating by parts a second time.
2. Using entries from a table of integrals -- know how to recognize which entry applies to the integral you have to do.

1. Chapter 7, section 3 -- problems like 1-35,43,45
2. Chapter 7, section 4 -- problems like 1-29
