Location: Smith Labs 154
The second exam covers Sections 6.1 - 6.4, 7.1 - 7.3, 7.5, and 7.6. However, some material from the previous exam (e.g., u-substitution, integration
formulas) should be reviewed for this exam as well.
It is recommended that you go over homework problems (HW #4 - 6, both written and WebAssign), class notes, and worksheets.
Many of the problems and questions we discuss in class are excellent examples of
test questions. The solutions to your WebAssign problems on HW #4 - 6 can be seen by clicking "View Key"
near the top of each assignment. You can also click on "Practice Another Version" to redo certain homework
problems.
In addition, some review problems from the Chapter 6 and 7
Review Exercises are listed below. The odd answers are in the back of the book while the evens are
listed here. The exam will be designed to take roughly one hour although you will
have 90 minutes if needed.
We will review for the exam during class on Tuesday, March 26.
Please come prepared with specific questions.
Note: You will be allowed a scientific calculator for the exam which does NOT have graphing or symbolic
capabilities. Please bring your own calculator with you to the exam.
Chapter 6 Review Exercises, pp. 371 - 372
The answers to the evens are:
Chapter 7 Review Exercises, pp. 440 - 442
The answers to the evens are:
Problems: 1, 2, 6, 9, 11, 14, 16, 19, 20, 23, 29, 30, 33, 34, 35, 36, 47
6. 500/3
14. (π/3)(1 - (1+H)-3)
16. 16
20. 2 (use symmetry).
30. 288π (shell method is easiest; radius is x, height is 8x - 1 - (x2 + 6) ).
34. 136π/15 (washer method: outer radius 5 - x2, inner radius 5 - 2x).
36. 16π/3 (shell method: radius is 4 - x; height is -x2 + 4x - 3).
Problems: 3, 4, 6, 8, 11, 13, 14, 15, 17, 23, 34, 35, 42, 48, 54
4. -e-12x(12x+1)/144 + c
6. 3 ln|x-5| + ln|x+3| + c
8. x(1+x2)-1/2 + c
14. (1/2)(9sin-1(x/3) - x sqrt{9-x2}) + c
34. (1/7) ln(12/5) (use ln a - ln b = ln(a/b) to simplify the answer).
42. 2 ln|x-2| - (1/2)ln|2x+1| + 2ln|x+1| + c
48. π/16
54. (x3/3)( (ln x)2 - 2ln x/3 + 2/9) + c (do integration by parts twice).
