    Assignment 1

    Due: Friday, September 9, in class

    Reading:

    "Tattoos on the Heart," by Gregory Boyle
    "They say/I say", Introduction, Chapters 1 and 2, pp 1-39
    Attend: Father Greg Boyle's talk on Tuesday, September 6, 7:30 in Hogan Ballroom.

    Writing assignment

    1) Write a short (between 1/2 page and 1 page, double spaced) summary of Father Boyle's talk.

    2) Write a short (1 to 2 pages, double spaced) personal reflection on the talk and the book. How did the book/talk make you feel? Were there particular stories that moved you? Were there stories that made you think differently about society or yourself? Use specific stories from the book and/or talk as examples, and try to be detailed about why you found the story particularly moving or thought-provoking.
