    Assignment 7

Due: Friday, February 13, in class

Writing/Discussion topic: Violence and Video Games

    Read the following article:

Griffiths, Mark (1999) Violent video games and aggression: A review of the Literature, Aggression and Violent Behavior, 4: 203 - 212.

Answer the following questions. Write at least 1/2 page, typed and double spaced, for each question. Support your arguments with references to the reading. (You may also use sources other than the reading, as long as you cite them properly).

    a) Give a reasoned argument that supports the contention that playing violent video games leads to more aggressive behavior in children.

    b) Give a reasoned argument that playing violent video games does not lead to more aggression in children and may, in some ways, be beneficial to children.

(Note: You will likely agree more with one of the above two arguments, but I want you to try to understand both points of view).
