Writing/Discussion topic: Cyberterrorism The prevalence of the internet and computers connecting much of the critical infrastructure in our country has led to the threat of cyberterrorism, in which sophisticated computer hackers could disrupt critical networks. Read the following articles: Denning, Dorothy, E. (2004) Cyberterrorism, in Spinello, R.A. and Tavani, H.T. (eds), "Readings in CyberEthics, 2nd edition," Boston: Jones and Bartlett Publishers. Baldor, L (2009) A costly effort to fight cyber attacks, The Boston Globe, Wednesday, April 8, 2009. Robertson, J and Sullivan, E. (2009) Evidence of hacking exposes threat to electric grid. The Boston Globe, Thursday April 8, 2009. Answer the following questions. Write at least 1/2 page, typed and double spaced, for each question. Support your arguments with references to the reading. (You may also use sources other than the reading, as long as you cite them properly). a) What are the primary threats posed by hackers in terms of cyber-security? Do you consider these "terrorist" threats or a lesser form of threat (e.g. civil disobedience)? b) Give a reasoned argument that the threat of cyber attacks is significant and warrants the expenditure of large amounts of taxpayer money to defend against them. c) Give a reasoned argument that the threat of cyber attacks is not important enough to spend large amounts of money to defend against.
