Assignment 1Due: Friday, January 23, in class
Writing/Discussion topic: Juicy Campus Last semester we talked about how communication over the internet can change how people interact with one another, either for better or for worse. An article that appeared in the Boston Globe on December 29, 2008, illustrates some of this. Read the article from the Boston globe. You can find it at the following link: Note: The article has 3 pages on the web. Make sure you read the entire article. Answer the following questions. Write at least 1/2 page, typed and double spaced, for each question. a) Some people think the Juicy campus website should be banned from college campuses. Give a reasoned argument why a college campus (such as Holy Cross) should ban Juicy Campus. b) Some people argue that Juicy campus should be allowed on college campuses. Give a reasoned argument why a college campus should not ban Juicy campus. (Note: You will likely agree more with one of the above two arguments, but I want you to try to understand both points of view). c) It appears that some people write particularly negative comments on Juicy Campus that they would not say in person. Why do you think people write things on the internet that they would not say in person?
