Detailed Schedule -- Thinking About Mathematics

MONT 107Q -- Spring 2017, Prof. Little

This is (definitely!) a tentative, evolving schedule. Topics will be "fleshed out" in greater detail as we proceed. If necessary, some topics may also be added, deleted, or rearranged during the course of the semester. Any major changes will be announced in class and here. Note: In the readings below, [HJS] = Hersh and John-Steiner, Loving and Hating Mathematics, [Jos] = Joseph, The Crest of the Peacock, [L] = Le Guin The Left Hand of Darkness, [McC] = McCarthy, All the Pretty Horses, [O] = Ovid, The Metamorphoses. A number of other mathematical readings will be posted as .pdf files on the course homepage; when the assignment for the day is one of those, that is indicated below.
