Mathematical Models

Homework Assignment #7 (Optional/Extra Credit)

Due Wednesday, April 30, 5:00 pm

Unless otherwise specified, all problem numbers refer to Giordano, Weir and Fox, the required text for the course. You should write up solutions neatly to all problems, making sure to SHOW ALL YOUR WORK. You are strongly encouraged to work on these problems with other classmates, although the solutions you turn in should be your own work. At the top of your homework, please list any students you work with or any other resources you found helpful (websites, books, faculty, etc.)

Section 10.1
Problems:   1, 3, 8

Section 10.4
Problems:   1a, 1d, 2, 5, 9, 11

Section 10.5
Problems:   1, 3, 4

Note: For each of these problems, use a stepsize of DELTA X = 0.1 and do 10 iterations of Euler's method. Then solve the differential equation using separation of variables and compare your approximate answer with the exact answer. For example, in problem #1, you should compare the actual solution value y(2) with the Euler approximation achieved after 10 steps.
