Multivariable Calculus

Homework Assignment #9

Due Thursday, November 15, START of Class

Homework should be turned in at the BEGINNING OF CLASS. All problem numbers refer to McCallum's book, the required text for the course. You should write up solutions neatly to all problems, making sure to SHOW ALL YOUR WORK. A nonempty subset will be graded. You are strongly encouraged to work on these problems with other classmates, although the solutions you turn in should be your own work.

Section 15.1
Problems:   5

Section 15.2
Problems:   3, 4, 7, 13, 15, 20, 28

Hint: In problem 4, set up the integral using horizontal cross sections. In problem 28, try reversing the order of integration.

Section 15.3
Problem:   1, 8, 11, 13, 14

Note: For problem 13, you may want to use Maple to help you with some of the messy algebra (eg. the command expand). For problem 14, the average value is the integral of the sum over the solid divided by the volume of the solid (see page 221 of the text.)

Section 15.5
Problem:   1, 2, 7, 12, 15, 16
