Calculus for Social Sciences 2

Exam #2

Wednesday, Feb. 20, 1:00 pm

The first exam covers Sections 6.1 - 6.6, 7.1 and 7.2. You should go over homework problems as well as your class notes. Some sample problems are listed below. The exam will be designed to take the full class period (45-50 minutes). You will need a CALCULATOR to do any area approximation problems involving Riemann sums. You are NOT allowed to use your calculator to store formulas or do symbolic or numerical integration. Any such use will be considered a violation of the honor code.

Exam Review: Monday, Feb. 18, 5:30-6:30 SWORDS 328

Chapter 6 review, pp. 544-547
Problems:   1, 7, 8, 13, 14, 19, 24, 29, 31, 37, 48, 49, 50, 53

The answers to the odd problems are in the back of the book. The answers to the evens are:
8.   (1/3)*(2x+1)^(3/2) + c
14.   1/(e^(-x) + x) + c
24.   242
48.   9/2
50.   3/10
For number 19, let u = x-2 and thus x = u + 2. Then substitute into the integrand and simplify to obtain an easier integral.

Note: You should also review initial value problems from Section 6.1.

Chapter 7 review, pp. 594-595
Problems:   1, 3, 5, 11, 13

Note: For problems from Section 7.2, a formula or list of formulae will be provided.
