Calculus for Social Sciences 1

Homework Assignment #6

Due Friday, Oct. 12th, 3:00 pm

Homework should be turned in at the BEGINNING OF CLASS. All problem numbers refer to Tan's book, the required text for the course. You should write up solutions neatly to all problems, making sure to SHOW ALL YOUR WORK. A nonempty subset will be graded. You are strongly encouraged to work on these problems with other classmates, although the solutions you turn in should be your own work.

Section 2.6
Problems:   1, 5, 8, 11, 13, 22, 25, 28, 47, 48

Note: For the problems which require finding the derivative of the function algebraically (problems 11, 13, 22, 25, 28), use the limit definition of the derivative. Do not use the power rule or any of the differentiation rules in Section 3.1. For #11 and #13, ignore the "four-step process" in the directions and just use the limit defintion to calculate the derivative.

Section 3.1
Problems:   2, 3, 8, 9, 13, 14, 19, 20, 27, 30, 36, 41, 44, 46, 61
