3-2 Program in Engineering
Holy Cross offers cooperative, five-year programs for students who are interested in combining the liberal arts and sciences with engineering. Students enrolled in these programs spend their first three years as full-time students at Holy Cross and the following two years as full-time students at the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science at Columbia University in New York City, or at the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. At the conclusion of this program, students receive both a Bachelor of Arts degree from Holy Cross and a bachelor's degree in engineering from the appropriate institution.
In addition to major and common area requirements for graduation at Holy Cross, students must fulfill pre-engineering requirements before applying to either the Columbia or Dartmouth engineering programs. Careful planning in close consultation with the 3-2 Engineering Advisor is essential to ensure that students will be prepared by the time they apply during their third year for admission to Dartmouth or Columbia. More details about each program can be found on the websites for Dartmouth's Dual Degree Program and Columbia's Combined Plan Program. There is also a 4-2 option to complete Columbia's Combined Plan Program in six years. Please note that Holy Cross does not offer the 2-1-1-1 option listed on Dartmouth's Dual Degree Program web page.
Students who wish to apply to this program must contact the 3-2 Program Advisor no later than the end of their first year at the College, and are urged to consult with the 3-2 Engineering Advisor as early as possible in their
college career in order to plan their courses.
