Perhaps there's something odd about my machine.  
When I run epix and put the eepic file into a tex file, I get the
right output with both in and cm; I guess my elaps isn't doing
something right.
I am using the non-stable version (0.8.8rc4) by the way, perhaps
that's part of it.

Thanks for the input, it gives me something to work with.
